Man under police guard in Canberra Hospital following fatal Cooma crash

A man has died, and another is under police guard in hospital, following a fatal crash in Cooma overnight.

Emergency services were called to Vulcan St, Cooma, at about 11:45 pm on Saturday (18 November) following reports a car had left the road and hit a tree.

Police officers found a man in the front passenger seat of the crashed Ford Falcon.

The man, aged in his 20s, was assessed by paramedics but he died at the scene.

He’s yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established and forensically examined by Crash Investigation Unit specialist officers, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.

NSW P0lice were told the vehicle’s driver was seen fleeing the crash site.

A 23-year-old man, believed to be the driver, was later arrested after presenting to Canberra Hospital with injuries.

He remains in a stable condition under police guard.

As the investigation continues, police have called for any witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
