Massive crackdown on drink driving

Kerces 25 November 2005 13

The ABC reports police across the south-east of Australia are cracking down on drink driving.

In the biggest ever interstate co-operative effort, called Operation Raid, police will have an increased presence on the roads as well as more random breath testing.

ACT Detective Superintendent Michael Chew told the ABC, “It will be just a heightened focus and a heightened presence in particular during Operation Raid over the next three weeks, then that leads into our heightened campaigns for Christmas and New Year.

“Members of the community tend to come into the party time of the year and they just need to be reminded that we have a rather large road toll at the moment and we will be focusing on drink-driving leading into the Christmas, New Year period.”

Before Christmas actually isn’t a bad time for Police to be doing comprehensive vehicle inspections, either. More people are going to be driving longer distances during the Christmas break than at any other time, and if you can get it fixed before people are miles from anywhere, so much the better.

Thanks, Che. You’ve finally given me an explanation as to why I was breath-tested at 8.30am on a Tuesday on that stretch of road.

I have wondered for ages as to the wisdom of whoever chose that place and time as it didn’t seem to me to be a particularly cost-effective use of resources.

It would also explain why there were about a dozen young coppers desperately trying to find some problem with every vehicle and driver they stopped.

I always like when the latest bunch of recruits are about to finish and one of their last excercises is to conduct an RBT

so one week during december all the young ones converge on Lady Denman Drive between 7 and 8 and get to have a go breathalizing the public

the only people in trouble would be those who’d gone to a work Xmas function the night before and were still over the limit

Serious and repeated drink driving offenders deserve jail time.

When the new ‘holiday farm’ opens for business in town, I trust that it will take ‘bookings’ from those who don’t believe they are, in effect, a loaded gun when getting behind the wheel with skin load of booze!

Barking Toad, I’m afraid I’m going to have to ‘go hippie’ on you and suggest you’re a tool. What is it about drink driving that you think is not worthy of police attention?

So situation normal Eh Toad?

More fund raising and please don’t go hippie on me and suggest otherwise. The annual christmas fund raiser.

Meanwhile, cunts are torching cars, people are getting bashed, druggies are thieving, pricks are hooning, people are taking more than eight items into the express line at woolies and hippies with a snout in the trough continue to deprive the needy of public housing.

I’m sure the members of the local constabulary would prefer directing their time and efforts to more productive activities. As they have been in getting at the recent ram raiders.

Kiddies may be interested that there is a suggestion that a young participant in recent ram raids was also involved in the incident that caused a death in Civic.

But let’s tie our police force up in the more important activities!

i suppose some wag called it “raid” as most Drink Drivers are maggoted when caught, and a good spray was in order?

Sometimes they have a blitz and don’t announce it

Sometimes they annouce a blitz but don’t have one.

In any event I pay extravagant rent to be able to walk home from the pub.

This might explain why they were doing RBT outside EPIC at 9am on Tuesday.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

They could have come up with a sexier name though…
