This Friday sees an abundance of amazing live shows in Canberra (only coincidentally during the Canberra Birthday week) as I’m sure the DIY wotz on guide will reflect later in the week.
It would be counterproductive to list them in this post, as the purpose here is to draw attention to a novel factor of one particular idiosyncrasy in one particular event…
Festival 15, at The Basement in Belconnen, is one of the most exciting showcases of the variety and quality of the local live music scene. 15 bands play for 15 minutes each on Friday 15th for only $15 entry.
The relevance to this post here today (over and above shamelessly promoting this local music event), is to bring attention to one of the more intriguingly named bands Matty and the Watts Hots. So named after liberal candidate, and regular contributor to the RiotACT, Matthew Watts.
Rest assured though, that Mr. Watts is in no way musically involved in the band. It has merely adopted his name in a (probably futile) attempt to bring some cool into this cool-less, but charming and endearing young man.
The fact that this 10 piece acoustic covers band is quite remarkably talented in their own right, is only of secondary importance (but an inescapable truth nonetheless).
Do what you will with this information, but I’m sure those that support (or otherwise!) will have something to say about the situation. Hopefully though it doesn’t inspire too much jealousy as not many of us can proclaim to have had a band named after us, can we?
