Good news Canberra, the annual fireworks by the lake are back to bring in 2023 with a bang.

It’s time to say goodbye to 2022, and what better way to do it than with a picnic along the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin with your family and friends.

To make things different this year, there will be four hubs where you can join in on all the action and welcome the new year.

They will feature plenty of entertainment and food vendors offering something for everyone to enjoy. The hubs are at: Regatta Point, Patrick White lawns, Rond Terrace and Bowen Park.

This year’s fireworks at 9 pm and midnight will be set off from multiple pontoons focused in the central and east basins of Lake Burley Griffin. This will offer those at the hubs plenty of great views.

Assistant Minister for Economic Development Tara Cheyne said the New Year’s Eve event would be a fantastic way for Canberrans to come together with family and friends.

“It also provides an opportunity for us to support our local artists, food vendors, tourism and hospitality businesses,” she said.

“Event-goers can plan ahead and take advantage of a pre-purchased picnic hamper to enjoy with friends and family while celebrating the new year.

“Alternatively, if you’re supporting local [business] and dining out in one of Canberra’s many restaurants, come down to one of the hubs afterwards to watch one, or both, of the fireworks displays.”
