New Cook speed limit farce!!

By Pommy bastard - 25 May 2009 55

I’m all for road safety being improved, and am a cautious driver. But I think the new speed limits which have been imposed in Cook are a bit much.

It’s not even a school zone for goodness sake! I was driving in second virtually all the way home, to comply with this, and it didn’t half make the guy behind me swear a lot!

What on earth were they thinking?

What’s Your opinion?

I’ve heard that this is what the road safety round table forum came up with earlier this month. Part of the zero deaths target?

It’s an aspirational speed limit.

Good catch, PB! And thanks for sharing it, gave quite a few of us a good chuckle from the looks of it.

I do wonder how hard is it to put a sign up the right way?

Given that the post is not vertical and the sign is straight one of the installers probaby stood back saying ” Up on the left, more, more, perfect.”

Or had an inverted sense of humour.

Search on YouTube for the Chaser harassing people who do more than the posted 5 / 10 kmh limits in undercover car parks.

As long as your guess is better than most, astro, as I’m certain it is!

I do wonder how hard is it to put a sign up the right way? I remember a few months back somewhere in Torrens/Pearce area, there was a Give Way sign that was upside down.

But we all better watch out of next time the Tuggeranong Parkway may have a changed speed limit of 001. So imagine someone doing 100k’s past one of the speed cameras…..

I reckon you could get booked on the old skateboard doing faster than that. Next up a speed camera.

Really hard to do down that hill on lyttleton cres. Its very easy to pick up speed and go over 9kph.

Signage is big business in the ACT. And road line markings.

As you travel west down Newcastle street in Fyshwick, past the Canberra Times building and turn left into Ipswich street there has been some road re-surfacing. As part of the contract thay appear to have been compelled to include a bike lane.

As you turn left the lane starts with the obligatory sign on the lightpole and the lane starts. Then another sign on the next lightpole. Until the next lightpole where the sign advises that the bike lane ends as the white line curves into the gutter, not connecting with anything like a footpath. It just stops.

So we’ve got signage and paint for a bike lane that starts from nowhere, goes less than 100m and finishes nowhere but needs three signs.

Great work if you can get it. Thanks mayor.

The trick is in not allowing the speedo to creep up to 10 … it’s so easily done!

Oh, that has given me a much-needed laugh!! Precious!

: D

Good thing you are so law-abiding, PB!
