Snowy Monaro Regional Council has appointed a new General Manager.
“I was impressed by the calibre of candidates for the role and I thank them for their applications. The number and quality of candidates show the high regard that Snowy Monaro Regional Council is held in by Local Government professionals and the confidence they have in our future,” says Mayor, John Rooney.
“After thorough and thoughtful deliberation, I am confident that we have found the most suitable candidate to take both Council and our region into the future.”
Peter Bascomb has won the Shire’s top job after acting in the role since Joe Vescio’s retirement in August.
“Mr Bascomb is a seasoned General Manager with twenty-three years’ experience in local government, including a number of diverse and complex Councils throughout New South Wales and Victoria,” Cr Rooney says.
“Our region is on the cusp of transformative change and getting the best candidate to bring our staff and the community on the journey into our future was the main focus for the recruitment panel.
“Peter’s overall capabilities and demonstrated leadership experience led the panel to select him from the exceptional candidate pool.
“In particular, his previous experience dealing with growth, transformative change and project delivery means Peter has the skills and expertise to get the balance right for our region.
“I welcome Peter into our ranks and look forward to working with him to deliver a better future for our region,” Cr Rooney says.
Mr Bascomb comes to the role having been General Manager of Palerang Council between 2005 and 2016 before being appointed Deputy General Manager in the merged Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
“I am passionate about Snowy Monaro Regional Council and excited about what Council has achieved so far, and where the region is heading,” Mr Bascomb says.
“Snowy Monaro has so much potential and I am honoured to be chosen to lead the organisation through the coming years.”
