Parking at ANU

A question for the Hivemind.

I’ve got an event on tomorrow that was at McGregor Hall but has now been shifted to John XXIII College at ANU.

Now, I know how bad parking was around campus a good few years ago when I was there, but was wondering if there are any (new/ unknown to me) options at all for (public) parking near the college itself?

Or is it simply park at the main visitor parking and hike over to the college?

Thanks!

anu parking officers dont work on saturdays…

I saw one today (Saturday) at about 1pm, nabbing a four-wheel-drive that must have been illegally parked near South Oval.

I was playing on said tennis courts the other weekend and I saw ANU security guys printing out fines and putting them on the windscreens of cars parked on the grass (under the trees).

Still, park in real parking spots and not on the grass… saw a bunch of cars from people playing on Willows oval getting fined the other weekend (can’t remember if it was Sat or Sun) as they were parked on the glass near the tennis courts/chin up bars. “Reserved” parking was fine I think, at least I was in one of those spots and wasn’t fined.

Parking is many times worse now and even the staff are amassing fines because of the shortage. But on a Saturday, it’s fine.

Thanks, I had seen the map but figured it probably wasn’t that accurate any more! The event is tomorrow (Saturday).

Or is it simply park at the main visitor parking and hike over to the college? Walk it

You could park at the Botanic Gardens and walk down?

I assume this item was sent yesterday, and therefore refers to today?

Otherwise yeah, just park almost anywhere on a Saturday.

Parking is now much, much worse than it was a “good few years ago”.

The visitor parking, in particular, is atrocious. The only options are about 20 parks immediately between the Coombs and Law buildings, and about the same number in the old main visitor carpark directly across the central walkway from the Engineering building. Yes, that’s right, there are now a total of about 40 visitor parking spaces on the ANU campus.

This map shows the visitor pay and display parking in blue:

Note that the large blue area in grid F4 has been reduced to about 10-20% of that size, and is the aforementioned area across from the Engineering building. The largish pink area in grid G2 is the City West carpark, which is where I mostly park now as a part-time student if I don’t get a park in the little public carpark next to Unilodge. The pricing is high at about $8 for 3-4 hours, but i’ve never had a problem getting a park in there, and you don’t have to worry about your voucher expiring.

As you’re going in on a Saturday, you shouldn’t have much trouble getting a park where you need it on campus. It’s only during the week that parking is an issue.
