The Hoot is here, and this week Ross and Genevieve tackle the big issues for Canberra – proposals for a new court, alternatives to light rail and what on earth to do about Book Week.

Light rail is proceeding apace across the bridge as major disruptions loom for one of Canberra’s most important arterial routes. Would we have been better off choosing something other than light rail, given we still don’t know the full costs or environmental impact?

In the messy wake of the Lehrmann matter, there have been suggestions that the ACT should have another look at how we manage sexual assault allegations in the courts.

Could a specialised court solve some of the issues around low conviction rates? Does the system need fixing? Or is the problem in the way individuals approach it?

And finally, the words that send a shudder down the spine of most parents – Book Week.
