Two men in a stolen white van allegedly attempted to steal a safe from Domino’s Pizza in Fyshwick early on Saturday morning – colliding with police cars twice as they fled the scene.

ACT Policing is asking for public help in investigating the attempted burglary which occurred around 6.55 am on Saturday, December 30.

Police state that the two Caucasian men tried to steal the safe through the Domino’s window and drove at police while fleeing.

According to police, the men were driving a white van bearing ACT registration YKA69R which was stolen from a business at Fyshwick (the van is shown in the video below).

After colliding with police vehicles on two occasions the men reportedly then drove the van erratically – often on the wrong side of the road – and were seen in the vicinity of Fyshwick Markets, Wentworth Avenue and Kings Avenue.

Shortly afterwards, the white van was found well alight in Hopetoun Circuit in Yarralumla and ACT Fire and Rescue were called in to extinguish the fire.

Police believe the two men fled on foot in the direction of Red Hill.

Police are urging anyone who saw the van driving erratically or who has dash-cam footage of the van to please call 131 444 and provide contact details for follow-up by investigators.

Additionally, police are asking people to contact ACT Policing Operations on 131 444 if they noticed anything suspicious, no matter how small, in the Yarralumla or Fyshwick areas between 1 am and 8 am on Saturday.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

ACT Policing has released video footage of the white van fleeing from the scene which can be seen below.
