Post School Options Expo ’08< /strong>PAVING THE WAY TO YOUR FUTURE
The Post School Options Expo ’08 is an information forum aimed to provide students with a disability, their families, carers and teachers with appropriate and timely information and advice on:
§ Transition Planning
§ Career Pathways
§ Employment Services and Options
§ Further Education and Training
§ Funding Eligibility
§ Advocacy and Information Services
§ Employability Skills
§ Life skills and Community Access Services
One of Australia’s best-known athletes and champion Paralympian Michael Milton will be one of the many inspirational speakers presenting on the evening. Speakers will also include young people with disabilities who have made successful education, workplace and life transitions.
A broad range of organisations and services will be exhibiting information stalls, including: Advocacy and Information Services; Employers; Further Education institutions; Life Skills and Community Access Services; Schools and School-based Apprenticeships; Support Groups; and Key ACT and Australian Government Agencies. The Expo is targeted at Year 9-12 students, however school-leavers with a disability are also welcome. The Expo’s theme, ‘Paving the Way to Your Future’, was the winning entry by Mackillop College special needs students in a competition to find a slogan for the event. The Post School Options Expo has also been incorporated into a Student to Industry Program (SIP) Adopt-a-School Project to give Melba-Copland College students the opportunity to design marketing materials and a promotional video for a real event.
Post School Options is an initiative of the ACT Interagency Transition Committee.
