Public art installation on West Row

By stereo henry - 7 April 2008 26

First was the ‘fragile’ sculpture near the Wig and Pen and now this…

public art on west row

I’m all for public art, in fact I’m a big fan and think there should be more, but this is pretty ordinary.

What’s Your opinion?

I kind of want to stick my head in it.

Ainslie’s Sheep by Lee Kossatz.

The embroidered waistcoat on the chair arm refers to Ainslie’s flamboyant dress sense,
and to an incident when his clothes were stolen by bushrangers. According to the story, Ainslie pursued and caught the bushrangers and retrieved his favourite waistcoat.

The story is something like this, a bushranger stole a guys favourite waistcoat. Because it was a favourite this guy chased the bushranger and got it back.

I have no idea what it has got to do with sheep 😉

Do bushrangers wear waistcoats? And what’s it got to do with sheep?

Thumper 2:13 pm 07 Apr 08

Something to do with a bushranger and a favourite waistcoat.

Those sheep are cool…

Does anyone know what those two sheep next to DJs are all about? At least they look like sheep though. Weird sheep.

Its Ned Kelly, after he tried removing his helmet with an angle grinder.

There is a big red one called “Rights of Passage” or something like that in front of the Waldorf Apartments…

I think this is part of a whole series. There are three other ones that are uglier, but made out of the same materials (the red plastic). There is one outside of the AusAid building, one on the corner of London Circuit and Akuna Streets (opposite the YHA) and an ugly blue one behind the Convetion Centre.

They’re hidious.

Are you meant to try to kick/pass a footy through the gap?

Mr Evil 12:43 pm 07 Apr 08

That’s awesome – NOT!

Well, someone will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Who would have thought you could turn this (:) into a work of art?
