Raiders season ends, as does an era

By johnboy - 10 September 2006 10

FoxSports has the anticipated news that last night the Raiders were nowhere near good enough, going down to the ‘Dogs 30-12.

Despite coughing up enough ball to lose the game twice over the Raiders seemed quite pleased with their performance. This, to me, is why the departure of the coach and six senior players isn’t quite the disappointment it would usually be.

As usually they started brightly before the rot set in, and as usual Jason Smith was a dominant presence until his aging body broke down again.

UPDATED: The SMH notes that the Raiders made the finals in all three grades which at lease bodes well for the future.

What’s Your opinion?

snahon, I knew there was a reason I hated you – Eels fan.

Stupid Storm. God I hate teams from outside NSW.

It was a really enjoyable season for Raiders supporters. Well done lads! Me and mine will be there watching again next season for sure!

The same could’ve been said about the Raiders of the early 90’s era, Swaggie.

At least we came higher than the rooters…

oh so I am arrogant ? I’ve been a doggies supporter since I was knee high to a grass hopper. Although I don’t agree with their behaviour or that of many of their supporters at times I just can’t stop supporting them 🙂

Yep, I too hate the “cheating and raping Bulldogs.

Well done Raiders for getting so far against the odds.

If there’s one team you don’t want to lose to it’s the Bulldogs. Their arrogance as a club, their supporters, their players even – I just dislike everything about that club. So long Matt, we never quite got the premiership team we aspire to but I think the club is in better shape now that it was when he took over as Coach.

You’ve got to love the Sydney press.

While the Raiders were outclassed, inept, beaten by a superior side, etc etc, Parramatta, who came 8th, went down to the Storm, but they were brave, strong, courageous, full of spirit, unlucky, etc etc…

Thumper 8:02 am 11 Sep 06

Ah well,

remembert that the Sydney press had them installed as wooden spoon winners.

Seventh kind of makes up for that.

What’s the money they get installed as wooden spoon winners again next season?
