Canberra United

The W-League semi-final between Canberra United and Melbourne City FC today is at 8pm, not 2pm as originally advertised, having been pushed back till after the 5pm A-League clash between the Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United due to the heat.

It’s currently 34 degrees in Canberra (at 1pm).

Members of the Canberra Raiders and the Brumbies have sent their best wishes to Canberra United players via a YouTube message:

We second that. In what has already been a huge weekend for women’s sport with the season opening round of the AFLW competition, we’re sending lots of winning wishes Canberra United’s way.

Here’s the official announcement about the game delay as published on Friday:

Football Federation Australia (FFA) has rescheduled the kick-off for the Westfield W-League 2017 Finals Series match between Canberra United and Melbourne City FC on Sunday 5 February 2017 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm local based on the latest weather forecasts under the FFA’s Heat Policy.
This decision has been made well before the match to allow players, coaches, members, fans and broadcasters to best prepare for the delay in timing.

The FFA Heat policy is based on the forecasted Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) and a threshold of 28 degrees is used to consider delay or postponement. There is a high probability that the WBGT of 28 degrees could be exceeded on Sunday at the scheduled kick off time of 2:00pm (AEDT).

To ensure the match is played at a safe and acceptable level, within the FFA Heat Policy, the match will now kick off at the rescheduled time of 8:00pm (AEDT).
