Shotgun and rifle seized during vehicle search in Belconnen

ACT Policing located and seized two firearms – a 12 gauge shotgun and a .44 calibre rifle – as well as a quantity of shotgun shells while executing a search warrant on a vehicle yesterday (11 January).

At about 5:00 am, police were called to Moulden Court, Belconnen after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle at the location.

Police located a vehicle with a man sleeping in the driver’s seat with the engine running. Police also observed an unsecured rifle inside the vehicle.

Police gained entry to the vehicle, arrested the man and secured the vehicle.

A search warrant was obtained by police before searching the vehicle and locating two firearms along with a quantity of ammunition.

The man, who is currently on a good behaviour order, will face court on Friday (15 January) for unauthorised possession of a firearm, driving while unlicenced, failing to comply with storage requirements and possessing ammunition.
