A small crane has toppled onto a truck at a residential construction site in Forrest as WorkSafe ACT investigates the site’s safety procedures.

Around midday, a telehandler (a small mobile crane) was lifting a load from a large truck when the telehandler overturned.

No one was injured but WorkSafe ACT inspectors attended the site to gather evidence and conduct interviews with relevant personnel.

All building activity on the site has been suspended after a non-disturbance notice was issued.

A WorkSafe ACT spokesperson said the investigation will include an examination of the site’s safety procedures, whether workers were inducted into those procedures and whether the procedures were followed.

“WorkSafe encourages all employers to place safety as their number one priority, to have adequate safety procedures in place and to make sure all workers are aware of these procedures and follow them,” the spokesperson said.

“Employers are encouraged not to rush work leading up to the end of the year shut-down.”
