Snow is expected to again fall on the Brindabellas and the ranges on Friday (23 July) and over the weekend, with a very high chance of showers and morning frost as well.

The forecast follows snow falling in the Brindabellas yesterday afternoon (20 July).

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Stephen Stafanac said a combined total of between 18 mm and 35 mm of rain is expected to fall across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

While snow will extend beyond the ranges and Brindabellas late Saturday and early Sunday due to the cold front, it is unlikely to reach the Canberra metro, he said.

“It can be up to 3 degrees cooler at higher peaks across Canberra which means temperatures at some higher areas like Black Mountain and Red Hill may get a dusting.”

While today and tomorrow will bring a slight reprieve from freezing minimums, overnight temperatures on Thursday are expected to drop to between -5 and -2 degrees across the ACT.

The cold will linger on Friday when daytime temperatures will struggle to hit double digits, ranging from 4 to a maximum of 10 degrees across the Territory.

The BOM said a front entering NSW and the ACT from the west yesterday morning, before its expected shift into the Tasman Sea today, brought the cold, wet and windy conditions across the state.

The temperatures follow a snow-filled weekend, where the region recorded heavy falls, including in Crookwell and Lost River.
