Theatre of the Dead is a zombie film planned for production in Canberra.

If you’re so five minutes ago that you’re not yet over the zombie thing* then they’re calling for cast:

Want to star in a Zombie film being shot in Canberra, January 2012? Here is your chance! Casting for Theatre of the Dead is now open!

Interested actors should submit a current Headshot and Acting CV indicating which role/s you are interested in auditioning for by the CLOSING DATE of FRIDAY 21st OCTOBER 2011 to casting@theatreofthedead.com.au

* Oh yeah man, it’s like a statement on mainstream consumer culture, and like, it’s OK to kill people if they’re already dead.

My Chemical Romance managed a song about the temptations of “Vampire Money”, but we doubt the zombies will get the same treatment anytime soon. (Possibly NSFW, strong language)

“…..Our relationship with the undead has gotten so stale that no one is sincerely excited about the prospect of a zombie apocalypse anymore……”

What a ridiculous statement, everyone knows that the primary aim of all zombie movies/shows is to educate, NOT to “excite” or entertain.

I for one look forward to adding a theatre section to my zombie survival guide.

I donated a bit of cash, am fronting up to be a Zombie extra in January and am attending the trivia night on the 7th. I think it is great that Canberra is developing a film industry and really, who doesnt want to tell their grandchildren that they played “Fat zombie number 3” in a movie?

Oh, a January 7th movie-themed trivia night will be held as a social event / last minute fund raiser before filming commences later on January… Here are the details

There are always new things to be said in any genre… some myopic game reviewer (albiet on the almighty Cracked.com) claiming otherwise won’t persuade the hundreds of thousands of undead fanatics out there otherwise… just look at the current success of the ‘The Walking Dead’…

Anyhow, the most important part of this film is that over 200 people in Canberra are going to have the ability to participate in an experience that is all too rare in the Canberra region… and in the end; that’s the most important thing…

Several other films are in the works, too… There are some amazingly talented people in Canberra – and for them to have a group like CFFC, to help share their vision, and maybe create some cool stuff along the way is really great. So anyone interested in contributing to some serious film making, head over to Facebook and find the “Canberra Feature Film Coalition” page for more info or to become involved…

Fads and trends come and go.

Zombie love lasts forever.

As much as Johnboy wants to make a pisstake out of this film, The Canberra Feature Film Coalition is using this film to help open doors to create a sustainable feature film industry here in Canberra. At last night’s CFFC meeting, I saw their Concept photography, and their concept footage and was just stunned at how good this film is going to look! (That footage will be up on the websites as soon as it has been “polished”)… There will also be a film-based Trivia Night ($20/head) on January 7, 2012, as a last fund-raiser prior to commencement of principle filming, on January 13, 2012 (At Erindale Theatre)… There is an IndieGoGo (crowd-funding) web page to help fund the filming…

If you have any interest in a film industry in Canberra, or in zombie movies, you should feel free to make a contribution… Oh, contributors get the first option at being zombie extras, too (if you get in QUICK)!

…and, “yes”… i still think zombies are cool 😉

Sorry GB, Cracked have come down on this. Zombies are no longer cool. The shark has been jumped.

At the end of any pop culture frenzy, the object of obsession has to outwear its welcome. If zombies were a house guest, then Dead Island would be the day you catch it wearing a pair of your underwear because it ran out of clean clothes. Our relationship with the undead has gotten so stale that no one is sincerely excited about the prospect of a zombie apocalypse anymore.

We’ve found every conceivable way to kill zombies; we’ve put them in every conceivable scenario, and now their ubiquity is getting annoying.

Did I die through Zombie Day on the 8th of Oct?

The plot sounds a lot like the TV series “Dead Set”.
