Stories of Canberra Planners has collected several interviews with Canberra’s first town planners. These will be made available to the public as a part of the Canberra and Region heritage Festival announced Simon Corbell today.
“While official records provide information on resolutions and decisions, oral histories provide individual perspectives about the big issues and turning points that defined Canberra’s establishment as the National Capital,” Mr Corbell said.
Stories of Canberra Planners – Oral History Project covers the period of the National Capital Development Commission (NCDC) from its establishment in 1956 to its closure in 1988 with self-government.
Four planners were interviewed as part of the project including Geoff Campbell, Malcolm Smith, Graham Mosley and Jill Lang.
