ACT Fire & Rescue were alerted to a structure fire on Alderson Place at 11:07am and have now arrived at the scene.
Fire crews are undertaking defensive firefighting to protect the perimeter of the property to ensure the fire doesn’t spread to adjoining buildings and crews are working to bring the fire under control.
ACT Fire & Rescue has three fire trucks, two CAFS tankers, the breathing apparatus support van, HAZMAT unit, Bronto aerial appliance, two commanders and superintendent on scene. An ambulance is also in attendance as a precaution.
Smoke from the fire is becoming visible in nearby suburbs including over the border in Jerrabomberra and Queanbeyan.
The structure is approximately 35 metres x 45 metres in size.
ACT Fire & Rescue HAZMAT specialists are monitoring the air quality.
The Health Directorate advises that, “people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.”
