Summernats under more pressure

Saw an article in the Chronicle this morning whilst eating my donut toast (cinnamon toast) at the cafe next to cafe cactus (i forget the name) this morning… and to my horror, there are going to be tougher restrictions imposed on all events at EPIC in the near future..

Apparently there is going to be more development around EPIC, which will introduce some tougher noise restrictions. Some Watson residents have already screamed their distaste for the annual Summernats event.

Chic Henry said that they are going to have to establish complaint contact lines for the event, plus the introduction of the noise restrictions.

My prediction is the event will resemble floriade in about half a decade at the rate things are going…

3 days of the year, a national capital tradition. a past time for motor enthusiasts alike. and still people want the event canned. I am glad they did that investigation of the event to determine the whinging/money ratio. and figured money ruled over the minority of whingers.

But in the broader spectrum… How is this going to affect events such as The Canberra Show and all the rest?
No doubt the Canberra show has just as much noise polution (maybe not as much smoke polution) but either way, I think this will prove disasterous in the longrun.. Thoughts?

Fine, we’ll just get Josie from Blokesworld to staff the complaints hotline.

I think the only thing going for us is that Chic Henry likes having it here.

You’d have to look far to find a privately funded event of this size getting so much agro from a government.

There is an offer on the table worth $30 million (clear)to move the event to QLD… if the ACT Government plays their cards wrong they will lose the whole thing.

It should be simple enough.

the showground is there, it is well known major events are held there.

anyone who moves into the new houses knows what they are buying.

what is this bollocks??

Given that Chic would sell anyones ass…… well, that’s nothing to do with Summernats really.

Thoughts you ask? Whinging peckerheads the lot. I lived in Downer/Watson and on every day when I would walk past EPIC during Summernats, closer than the residential housing, the noise level did not exceed that of passing traffic.

Some people just have to feel they are relavent in their twilight years by fucking it up for them pesky kids.

Maybe its the govt’s secret way of getting rid of the event??? Come on it is stanhope’s mob. God knows what they’re planning…

Or maybe the Chronicle’s way of getting readers?

There must be enough money in it regadless of the restrictions. Lets face it old Chick is in it for the cash.if it wasn’t making money he would have set up in Qbn or Gbn a long time ago.
Remember Apocalypse its not the noise but the old fogie culture that is at stake.
