There is a new music series beginning at Smiths Alternative. It’s called Sunday Siren Series. It’s on the 3rd Sunday of each month. The series is the brain child of songwriter Lisa Richards and Smith’s co-owner Meryl Hinge. At every show, Lisa will be joined on stage by 2 local women singer songwriters. “We will sit on stage together and each songwriter will perform one of their songs and we’ll go round and round chatting and playing songs for each other and for you. It’s a format called ‘Songwriter in the Round’ (even though it’s more like a semi circle or a line…somehow songwriter in the line doesn’t have the same ring).”
Songwriter Lisa Richards moved to Canberra 18 months ago after living and making music in the USA for 22 years. The ‘Songwriter in the Round’ is a style of song presentation that began at The BlueBird Cafe in Nashville Tennessee before spreading across the world. It creates the space for a surprising, varied and entertaining showcasing of songwriters and their songs.
