Yep, I know you have to go through a lot (and usually spend some money) to make any changes.

I think the only believable show I’ve seen in Canberra with accents was Phoenix’s “little shop of horrors” this year, and that was probably just because the accents were so outrageous to start with that being over the top worked.

kinda agrees with you LG. There have been some rough attempts (even professional) but I cant say all. I have seen some amateur shows where the cast are so believable that it’s funny to hear them talking Aussie after.

Thumper, it also breaches the contract when you obtain the performance rights to change the script. Sometimes we do but its still a no-no in most cases.

I am yet to see an amateur show where “accents” work.

Thumper,

It’s just easier to do a yank accent than a Shefield “Geordie” type accent. Also having had to drive through Buffalo on a wet and windy night and sit in the Amtrak station for hours, I can fully understand why they set the play there.

We were considering tryng to change it to Aussie, to have it set in Newcastle (when BHP was downsizing) but there are just too many references that would need to change including full songs (Michael Jordan’s Ball).

The expectation is that they do do the full ‘full monty’ on stage….it should sort the boys from the men.
