In an announcement no Minister wanted to be associated with Territory and Municipal Services have flown a kite on making charities pay the same landfill fees as the rest of us to “help” them reduce waste:
The ACT Government is to begin consulting with charity organisations and industry over a review of charity landfill fee waivers to help the sector increase the amount of waste they recycle.
“Under the current system, landfill fee waivers are granted to certain charities involved in resource recovery that meet set criteria but we have realised that this has led to some waste that could have been recycled ending up in landfill,” David Roberts, Acting Manager, ACT NOWaste said.
“We know that charities are keen to help the ACT as a whole continue to improve its recycling rate and the review of this landfill fee waiver will help achieve this.”
Mr Roberts said the review would help the Government develop a system that increases the amount of
waste sent to recycling and one that is simple to use and administer.
