The Community Performance Class will be held Thursdays, 7.30 – 8.50pm throughout 2008. The class will focus initially on the development of choreographic and performance skills (Stage 1), and will then shift to the creation and rehearsal of the Promenade (Stage 2). It will culminate in CDT’s 30th birthday performances at the NGA’s Sculpture Garden in late November (Stage 3).

STAGE 1 – Term 1 & 2

The first 2 terms will be laying the ground work of skills and knowledge to be used in creating the site specific dance/movement work in Terms 3 and 4.

NB. Participation in Stage 1 (Terms 1 and 2) is a highly desirable pre-requisite for undertaking Stages 2 and 3 of the project. Participants wanting to take part in the project but unable to be part of Stage 1 should speak with Artistic Director Meg Millband on Mobile 0448 481711 or email mr_mill@bigpond.com for further details.

STAGE 2 – Term 3 & 4

In term 3 the dance work will be created and directed by CDT Artistic Director Meg Millband, supported by Jane Ingall and Philip Piggin.

The work will be an integrated dance/movement piece, drawing on the variety of dance styles, skills and experiences of the participants. The process will be an evolving collaborative process with the participants and Director. Importantly it will not be a series of short performances of different dance genres/styles.

NB. Participants do not need to have a background in performance, choreography or Contemporary Dance to be involved in the project.

STAGE 3 – Term 4

Located in the NGA Sculpture Garden, the performance will take place on a Saturday and Sunday evening in late November 2008. (exact date tbc.) It will be made up of a number of dance and movement vignettes performed concurrently in different spaces. The work will relate to and interact with the sculptures, landscapes, sound scapes and audience.

Participants will most importantly need to commit to being available for ALL dress/technical rehearsals and the 2 performances. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for the CDT community, and we welcome your enquiries, participation and performance!
