I’ve just had the following come over my desk, it’s intriguing on a few levels:
UC Live! is excited to announce the launch of their new Comedy Club the chUCkle hut, to be held on Friday 30 September in the new University bar – Zierholz @ UC. Headlined by triple j’s Tom Ballard, the first ever chUCkle hut event is sure to make you ROFL. Joining Tom on the stage will be Steve Philp and Dave Jory, two of Australia’s most promising comedic talents.
Also known for his hosting antics on breakfast radio for triple j, Tom Ballard was only 19 when he was awarded best newcomer at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Since then he has performed everywhere from Alice Springs to the Hordern Pavilion, the infamous Late ‘n’ Live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the invitation-only Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. Now it’s our turn to see this socially aware, intelligent, ever-developing and genuinely gifted comic live on stage.
A comic in high-demand, Steve Philp has been the MC for Tropfest Short Film Festival for 8 years running, has appeared on practically every radio station in the country and is well-known for his regular performances on the NRL Footy Show. Now adding the chUCkle hut launch to his impressive resume, it’s with good reason Steve is considered one of Australia’s busiest comedians.
Rounding out this impressive triple bill is the hilarious Dave Jory. Dave was a finalist in Rove Live’s Golden Nut Competition, as well as being chosen as an Australian finalist for the popular NBC America program Last Comic Standing. Dave has also appeared on the NRL Footy Show, Stand Up Australia and triple j radio.
UC Live! is responsible for many of the Capital’s best live entertainment events. The chUCkle hut will bring quality comedy to Zierholz @ UC on a regular basis and promises to become a Canberra favourite.
