Canberra’s best (in my opinion) Writer/Performer Andrew Hackwill is at it again with his latest offering
“The Court of Swing Caractacus” is currently in rehearsals and will be presented at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre MAY 11 – 26 of this year. Andrew has over the last 4 years written the scripts, composed the music, built the sets and starred in some of the best musicals ever seen in Canberra. All of Andrews shows have been nominated for Theatre Awards and to date I believe the count is 3 wins, including Best New Show and Best female lead in a musical.

A brief synopsis:
This neo-swing musical is to be performed as an 80-minute, Single Act Show and will be accompanied by a 6 piece swing band and 6 swing dancers. The ballad “the Court of Swing Caractacus” itself is a poem consisting of 162 quatrains, with each line containing stricktly 14 syllables. It is broken up into 9 parts seperated by 10 songs. Unusual spellings are in homage to C’J Dennis’ The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke

If you’ve always thought of ACT Theatre as being ho-hum then you obviously have not seen any of Andrew’s Shows, this man is a talent that stands alone amongst his peers. if you only see one show this year in Canberra then get yer bum along to see The Court of Swing Caractacus for more details please contact the arts Centre or check thier website at www.tuggeranongarts.com
