The fox and the Parliament. Images of Canberra

fox and parliament

Does this sum up the Bush Capital? Where else in the world could you look at a Country’s parliament with a skinned fox nailed to a fire-damaged tree in the foreground!?

Picture was taken from the lookout up Red Hill early on a fine morning….

One for yous city slickers ..While drying/stretching the pelt, the char actually dries out the fat on the skin and will not be flyblown.

salt is cheap. tack fox skin (fur down) to a board. cover in salt. no flies, no risk from exposure

city slicker, lol

What’s the going price for a fox skin nowadays? Back in the day, I recollect it being around $5-15 depending on quality.

Still ten bucks in some parts 🙂

bugger all, i remember skinning 20 in one night once, back when they were worth money, now, we leave em where they lie. not worth the effort.

and like i said, the stink, only scrubbing your hands with toothpaste seemed to get the smell off

I love it. Not necessarily the fox skin itself, though that’s pretty surreal, but the fact that it can be there. I can’t imagine that there are many capital cities in which you could do something like that.

Don’t let it disappear under blocks of flats.

I just thought it quite bizarre. As Northwest said, skinning fox is not an easy job (I’ve skinned rabbits, but not a fox – guessing it is a bit more difficult!). Why do it? Did bring a smile to my Father-in-law-visiting-from-spain though….

I hate to break it to you, but this could most likely be achieved most places in the world… Trees being in cities is not unique to Canberra, and it doesn’t take a genius to set fire to one…

While what you say is true, I have been in many of the capital cities of the world, and I can’t think of many trees, with line of sight to the Seat of Government, which you could burn, and then nail a fox skin to without it raising the attention of many people (and most likely the removal of the fox, the burn tree, and yourself to another location).

I reckon it’s a thinly veiled warning from Julia Gillard to Murdoch (aka Fox). Stop your News Ltd papers criticising me — or I will crucify you!!

Either that or some voodoo ritual intended to bring down misfortune on Parliament (well, it’s certainly been working)

skinning a fox is such a prick of a job, and makes your hands stink for days, i dont understand why someone would go to all that effort, to only nail it to a tree
