The Greens’ inform us that their candidate for Molonglo, Shane Rattenbury, is taking a breather from local politics to compete at the Triathlon World Championships in Almere, Holland.
- This will be my fifth World Championship, and I hope to post a PB.
Shane Rattenbury has represented Australia five times previously at World Championship level, including at the famous Hawaii Ironman.
The Long Course Triathlon World Championship involves a 4km swim, 120km cycle and 30km run. It is being held in Almere in the Netherlands, just outside Amsterdam.
Nice enough lad is Shane, but his ideologies make Deb Foskey look positively right wing

So he’s a Transformer?
Oooh, I hope he can transform into something useful (i.e.not a politician).

And when you run for office VG, trust me, we’ll follow you to the toilet with camera rolling.
Being pro drug, to me, just seems like speeding up the Darwin process. What’s wrong with that?
I’ve represented Australia 4 times in triathlons at world championship level (true story). Is that something that’s supposed to add to your credentials?
What a non-story
Without harvesting too many nasturtions, being ‘green’ in this day and age can also include being a pro-drug campaigner.
The greens aren’t just about the environment, one of the major misnomers they continue to circulate on the unsuspecting public.
Seems he’s over-qualified to be in ACT politics. He’s too smart, too committed, too athletic…
Shane has a very lean look. I had put that down to lentil rations, but seems there may be more to the guy than meets the eye.
For someone running for the Greens to fly to the other side of the planet to participate in a race is a shocking indictment of his position regarding climate change and pollution.
Why isn’t he running/swimming/cycling to Holland??
