The lake has water?

I went to try and get an image that would sho how much water is currently in the lake. The only way I could find to show this is by using about 30 photos in a Gigapan. See the following link.

I just tried that, couldn’t find any references to it.

The article states it is/was the first time since the 1940s the lake was bone dry.

The Herald is wrong again. It was bone dry in early 1987. I drove onto the lake bed from the old highway and stripped off and took some pics of myself with a tripod.

I remember the lake being really full in the late 80’s – 88 or 89. People were stopping by the side of the road to take photos. It stayed full for quite some time too, before it drained away.

If it was reported in newspapers at the time, you should be able to find something in the National Library’s scanned newspapers: http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper The ACT Heritage Library at Woden Library might be able to find something, too.

There’s water in some of the ACT lakes too, but it’s really icky, you wouldn’t want to celebrate it. Maybe they should give LBG the George treatment, completely drain it and then let it refill and see if it looks nicer the second time around?
