“Michael Jackson Tribute Show performed by Melbourne’s Paul Rizzo, who has been impersonating Michael Jackson for more than 15 years!” Aparently he just comes on stage and lies there these days.
I mean seriously, what is it with these “tribute acts? I saw the “fake Bee Gees” or whatever, at one of the New Years events a while back. I mean to say, it’s not as if the real ones weren’t bad enough to give you toothache?
Isn’t a case of; “you’re not big enough a place to attract the real talents, so here’s a cheap impressionist to give you a watered down taste.”
[ED – we hear his Chiefliness is not well pleased with the original music community after the McGregor Hall unpleasantness, expect a solid program of covers and tributes?]
UPDATE: Mr Stanhope has now put out a media release on his program:
“Groovin’ in the City is set to showcase some of Canberra’s best live music and performances, adding to the bustling atmosphere of the Canberra City lunch scene,” Mr Stanhope said.
“Canberrans can look forward to special performances by local artists and themed weeks, including Disco Divas and Rock Heroes, String Fling, and Magic and Illusions.
“Thanks to the positive feedback received by local businesses and members of the public, and the generous support of program sponsor Canberra CBD Limited, we have extended this great entertainment program to 24 weeks.
