One of Canberra’s less spoken of traditions is Christmas Eve at The Phoenix.

People who’ve moved interstate come back to see their families and by Christmas Eve already need a break, so they go to the Phoenix to catch up with old friends and Fred Smith plays a killer set before the bell is rung vigorously and the punters are told to “F*ck Off” with great seasonal cheer.

This year with the bar closing down over the festive period the event is moving forward to Saturday, 22 December:

Saturday 22nd will be the last day of trade at The Phoenix for 2012, The Fred Smith Band will do their (usually xmas eve) orphans christmas gig from about 10pm till 1am.

Thanks to all punters, bands and staff for a great 2012. Hope you all have a happy festive season and recovery, we’ll be back open on the 4th of January.
