There’s $1000 worth of club food and beers up for grabs, provided you can come up with something better than ”Craney McCraneface” for Gungahlin’s newest landmark.
Developed by Glav Corp and being built by Chase Group, the Sierra project is now well underway on the corner of Kate Crace and Efkarpidis streets in the heart of Canberra’s fastest-growing region.
A mixture of 158 residential, commercial and co-live-work units will be spread over three buildings and nine levels, within walking distance of the Gungahlin Town Centre and 20 minutes from the city by car or light rail.
The basement and first-floor concrete slab are now complete and an enormous crane is in place to help with the next stage of development.
Sales are managed by The Property Collective, and director of sales and projects Will Honey says the real state company is inviting members of the public to join its first ”Name the Crane” competition.
“If you look at the Gungahlin skyline, it stands out,” he says.
The winning name will be proudly flown from the top of the crane until at least the end of the year, but there’s also a $1000 gift card to the Eastlake Football Club in Gungahlin in the mix.

“The development is conveniently positioned right next door to the club, so it made sense to partner for this competition,” Will says.
Entries to the competition opened on 18 March and will close on 17 April. The shortlisted names will then be displayed on the Sierra website from 21 April to 5 May for people to vote on.
“We’re in the stage where people nominate a name, and then we’ll shortlist those and put it out to the public to vote on which name they think is best,” Will says.
Unlike many other similar competitions, however, the terms and conditions stipulate that you must be at least 18 years old to enter. That should help weed out the ”Mr Crane” nominations.
Will says construction is on track for a completion date in March next year, with settlements soon after, and 85 per cent of the apartments are sold.
“It’s a really good-news story for developments in Canberra at the moment. That one is under construction and on target to be finished in time.”
Prices range from $389,900 to $559,900 for one-bedroom apartments depending on the floor plan, $559,900 for a two-bedroom unit, and $639,900 for two bedrooms and two bathrooms. All but the cheapest have a designated underground car space.
Settlements will likely begin late in the second quarter of 2024.
