The link of justbans’ is the source media release to my link above. 😛

The NCA tested it yesterday, no results available as yet though. I’m waiting to find out…as I’m entered in a triathlon scheduled for Saturday.

I was thinking that once the lake was so filled with BGA, then everyone will be able to walk on the water.

Can you walk on the water yet?

Still closed.

i swam in it by black mt peninsula on sunday, and i’ve not died ye…

After further testing today, LBG still closed until Tuesday.

We have rains expected over the weekened, so it could get better or worse. 😐

Gross. Sullivan’s creek (Feeds in from the ANU) often smells like absolutely nasty shit, too.

As a regular user of LBG, I can confirm that the Lake is a cesspool. Some days it smells really bad, particularly at the entrance to West Basin, just off the National Museum, right where that stupid Immigration Bridge is s’posed to go.

Anyway, last year, or the year before, I forget, two big dogs, Golden Retrievers I think, died after drinking Lake water. And, in 2003, there was this report: http://www.aims.gov.au/arnat/arnat-010-02-20000044.htm

I don’t know of any sailors or dragon boaters that have gotten sick from contact with Lake water, and on hot days I swim in it myself with no ill effects (and I’ve been swimming in the Lake since before it was filled with water, when it was the Molonglo River). But the death of those dogs worried me, and Lake water really does pong. And if you leave your boat in the Lake overnight, then the best thing is oxalic acid to get the ring of grime off the hull that accumulates in a few hours.

“Several cases of human poisoning have been documented but a lack of knowledge prevents an accurate assessment of the risks.”

so we close a lake on the slim chance that maybe… what else is in the water that is more soundly shown to be harmful – people swimming and kids pissing ans sh1tting in it mebbe? dogs? hmmmmmm…..

What causes the BGA?

Ye gods. We’ve just had a heap of rain, you’d think that would’ve sluiced it out a bit.

Who in their right mind would go swimming in that anyway?!
