A group of trail bike riders were allegedly spotted performing burnouts outside a police station before fleeing when officers tried to stop them.
The group were allegedly seen performing the burnouts in the car park of the Belconnen Police Station at about 8:40 pm on Monday night (17 March), an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
It is alleged one of them even drove right up to the front doors of the police station on a yellow Suzuki motorbike.
“Police attempted to approach the group before they rode away from the station, ignoring police directions to stop,” the police spokesperson said.
Not long after the riders fled, officers saw a motorbike on its side on nearby Chan Street with its rider trying to get back onto his vehicle.
“Police will allege he then rode over a garden bed before falling off the bike again,” the spokesperson said.
The rider, a 19-year-old man from Higgins, was arrested while he tried to get back on his bike for the second time.
The police spokesperson said the bike, a yellow Suzuki trail bike, was unregistered.
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” they said.
The 19-year-old man was charged with failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and unlicenced driving.
He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday (18 March), where he applied for bail, which was not opposed by the prosecution.
Bail was granted and he will face court again at a later date.
