Tuggeranong Hyperdome scammy ‘Shop, Play, Win’ promotion

By Esmeralda 21 February 2013 26

I have just complained to Tuggeranong Hyperdome about their scammy promotion – ‘SHOP, PLAY, WIN.’

I was given a ticket in it on Monday because I spent over $60 at a shop there, so went in today to claim my prize only to be told you had to bring your receipt and you had to claim your prize on the day of purchase.

I pointed out that nowhere on the ticket did it say anything about that and the guy said ‘you have to read the terms & conditions’ …so I asked ‘where are they’ and he replied ‘in my desk drawer’ !!!

I rang the ACT Govt office of promotions & raffles compliance section – they were lovely and take it very seriously! I have scanned in the ticket & emailed it to them….

I find it extremely hard to believe that there aren’t terms & conditions available on the receipt or somewhere else like a website, promotional posters etc…

I get the feeling somebodies leaving out some ‘minor’ details in their account of what actually happened.

There are terms and conditions for this competition. Others have linked to them on this thread.

The point is, nowhere in those T&Cs was there mention of having to claim a prize on the same day as the purchase. Therefore, they’re violation their own T&Cs.

It sounds pretty straight forward to me, minor details or not.

Im a little suprised you didnt pull that flick knife out of your handbag and demand your free gift!

F**k me there are some tight asses in Canberra!

Or people who think businesses should comply with the law and with the statements that they make.

I hope no one complaining is also the type of person who whinges about cyclists ‘switching’ from road to pedestrian or motorcyclists driving between cars or other minor such indiscretions, which apparently are ok for businesses.
