Tuggeranong Masters Swim 9km Sri Chinmoy National Capital Swim

Tuggeranong Masters Swimmers competed in the 9km Sri Chinmoy National Capital swim on December 1 with a couple of their members doing the whole 9km solo.

The swim commences from the boom at Scrivener Dam, and transitions through Weston Park West (near the miniature train), Yarralumla Bay, Commonwealth Park (behind Questacon) and finishes at Grevillea Park.

Two swimmers undertook the 9km swim solo without wetsuits. They were Caroline Makin and Greg Gourley. Caroline completed the swim in a time of 2:40:25 placing 3rd in the solo female under 50 division, and Greg completed the swim in 2:41:45 placing 4th in the solo male 50-59 division.

Also two teams of two, “Viking Duo” Anne Smyth and Nicolee Martin, and “Viking Vintage 61? Jeanette Droop and Leisa Cass. Anne and Nicolee took out 1st place in the women’s team division in 2:39:14, with Jeanette and Leisa coming in 2nd place to them in the same division with a time of 2:44:48.

Two teams of four swimmers, a ladies team and a mixed team also swam. The ladies team “Viking Water Birds” of Mandy Coggins, Petrina Quinn, Mary Liz Partridge and Jodie Moate placed 8th in the women’s team division finishing in 3:11:33. The mixed team “Viking Relics” of Pam Munday, Ian Hampton, Jon McRae and Brenda Day finished in a time of 3:01:06 placed 5th in the mixed team division.

Also, hiding in a team with some friends was one of their new lane one swimmers – congratulations to Eloise Bolton who did the first leg of the swim. Eloise’s team came 5th in the women’s team division.

A fantastic effort by all competitors and there were many supporters who followed the swim from start to finish and cheered the swimmers on.
