The much-loved regional brewery Tumut River Brewing Co has recently been bought by two staff members, bringing it back from the brink after the previous owner closed the doors in September. Now that the ink has dried on the contract, new owners Michael Cichoki and Mary Richmond are ready to hit the ground running.

A reopening party has been announced for Saturday, 14 December, at the Tumut brewpub, with the promise of live music, activities for kids, and, of course, plenty of cold beer on tap!

Speaking to Region when the sale was first announced, new owner Michael Cichoki said their focus will be squarely back on Tumut.

“Our passion lies in bringing [the business] back to its roots, which is a brewpub servicing the local community and being a tourism destination. That’s what we want to focus on.”

The Tumut River Brewpub is well known for its focus on supporting live music. The venue regularly features local and interstate acts.

“The business has always been about supporting local producers and artists … so one thing we’re looking forward to is getting live music back on its feet. We want to get those musicians back through town and support independent musicians,” Michael told Region.

The reopening party was announced via an email to supporters, where the team expanded on some of their plans for the future.

“We’ve brought back some of your favourite beers, like Hitchhikers and Ginja Ninja, while scaling back the range to really focus on refining those core brews. The food menu will also feature delicious local ingredients, keeping things as close to home as possible.

“You’ll notice some changes around the venue and in our branding as we put our own stamp on things and add a bit of our personality.”

The brewpub has been open this week as a ‘soft’ reopening ahead of the official launch on Saturday. Social media posts said the team still had “training wheels on” while they adjusted to the menu and software and asked for patience as they found their feet.

However, locals and visitors alike will be relieved to know that the much-loved local brewpub has a new lease on life and that there are people on board who care about the brand and the local community.
