This Saturday and Sunday.

Twilight piano music at the Drill Hall Gallery, ANU

This Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, 5pm.

Please join Carl Rafferty at ANU’s very pleasant Drill Hall Gallery, this weekend at 5pm. He is presenting a preview of some of the piano music he’ll be playing in Vienna this summer.

An enjoyable way to finish an autumn afternoon?

Seating is limited to 80 people. Book now by email – carlrafferty@bigpond.com

The gentle slow movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata is surely the most evocative of all musical pictures. You’ll enjoy this serene moment from the pen of the master, followed by the whimsical minuet and the impassioned finale. This is Ludwig at his most fiery and romantic!

He’ll give you two sonatas by Scarlatti. These will take you on a sunny and wistful journey to Spain, and Satie’s Gymnopedies will paint you a gentle picture of ancient Greece.

Nothing captures the spirit of Vienna like Richard Strauss’ Rosenkavalier Waltz. You’ll be tapping your toes to these glamorous and memorable tunes.

Chopin waltzes and mazurkas. This is piano music at its most poetic and elegant, and the Mazurkas bring a whiff of the east into the salons of Paris;
