Dozens of SES volunteers, AFP Search and Rescue personnel, and ACT Policing officers have combined resources as the search continues for Tim Lyons.

The 38-year-old was last seen on 19 December 2023, at about 4 pm at his Gordon home. Searches have occurred over the past month in Tuggeranong.

The focus has moved to the Mount Taylor area along Sulwood Drive in Kambah, and crews have spent hours combing the bushland.

ACT Policing Senior Constable Taran Morgan wouldn’t divulge the investigative methods that led search crews to this area, nor if they were searching for a body.

“It’s fair to say that we have concerns in relation to his welfare based on the time that he has been missing,” he said.

“We’re still hopeful that we will locate him alive.”

It’s also not known at this point if there’s evidence to point to whether Tim went missing voluntarily or if foul play is involved in his disappearance.

“We are still at the very early point in our investigation … we’re exploring all of the avenues that exist,” Snr Const Morgan said.

While everyone has been urged to keep an eye out for Tim, residents and those in the Gordon, Conder, Banks and Richardson areas have been asked to be extra vigilant.

“Tim is known to frequent Canberra’s south and we are asking people who live in the area to be particularly vigilant for any potential sightings,” Snr Const Morgan said.

“If any members of the community sights something that gives them concern or that they think might be related to this investigation, I would just urge them to contact 131 444 and report that information to us as soon as possible.”

It’s believed Tim was wearing black jeans, a t-shirt and boots when he went missing and could have been carrying a leopard-print blanket and other bedding.

Police have previously released footage of a man they have been unable to identify and are hoping for information about that person’s identity as well.

“We can’t confirm that that’s Tim depicted in that footage … certainly I would appeal to anyone who has knowledge about the identity of that person to come forward,” Snr Const Morgan said.

Tim is described as Caucasian, about 175 cm (5’8″) tall, with a slim build, fair complexion, close-cropped hair, a full black beard, and blue eyes.

He also has a visible scar on his right eyebrow and a piercing at the top of his left ear.

Tim does not have access to a vehicle and normally gets around on foot or uses public transport.

He has a limited social media presence and online footprint, and it is not believed that he has a mobile phone or any access to funds.

Anyone who has seen Tim recently or may have any information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact ACT Policing on 131 444, quoting reference number 7627182.
