You can rest easy this Easter, because the animals at the National Zoo and Aquarium aren’t missing out either.
The squirrel monkeys, meerkats, siamangs and ruff lemurs were among the first to score special Easter-themed treats on Thursday morning (6 April).
The colourful plastic egg-shaped containers and bunny-eared baskets contain mixtures of fruit and nuts, because apparently most animals are allergic to chocolate. Either way, they seemed to enjoy them.
Zookeeper Olivia Ware talks us through the annual tradition:
The National Zoo and Aquarium is open every day this Easter long weekend, from 9 am to 5 pm.
