You may remember this thread, about a mad mate of mine from the UK, who was coming over to ‘Berra, to get wed in August. Well the wedding was on Monday, (yes Monday,) and the whole thing went off so well, I thought I’d give due thanks publicly.
First up, and biggest, thanks to Hope Bolte of the Marque hotel. We had planned the wedding ceremony to be at the Carillion, but due to the rather inclement weather we’ve had of late, we had to fall back onto “plan B”, and hold the ceremony at a room booked at the hotel. Hope was so obliging , courteous and understanding, as were the rest of the hotel staff, and made sure the day went smoothly and was special. Not only did she smooth the way for us, but she also ensured the room for the wedding night was done out appropriately, and made very romantic, and that little extra touches (Champaign etc) were on hand. I cannot praise the Marque enough.
Secondly, Jenny, the celebrant, who quite possibly had never had such an odd wedding to run, was the epitome of cool calm understanding, and again went out of her way to ensure a seamless ceremony.
Next up, the Hyatt, for afternoon tea, and photos. The staff there were charm personified, the food was superb as was the wine. We also managed to use their gardens for more wedding photos, which added a bit of extra class.
Last and certainly not least, Alto, for the evening meal. Superb grub, more free Champagne, luscious wine, and the staff (Andrew, and a young lady whose name we didn’t catch) who were excellent and trod the fine line between friendliness and obsequiousness with great aplomb. Our friends were totally blown away by the views and the food etc. (We hadn’t told them you can go up the tower, let alone they would be dining there, just to heighten the surprise.)
So the day was not only a smooth, seamless, success, but was made special and a great joy for all involved.
Couple that in with the usual Canberra “must sees”, the NGA, NMA, War Memorial (there when the jet passed over!) Tidbinbilla, Fyshwick, Parliament etc, and I think the praises of Canberra will be spread far and wide on their return to Somerset.
Great, I can relax now….
