That first pic is a cracker, well done!

Since this photo appears to have piqued readers’ interest in raptors: you might enjoy this podcast, aired on ABC radio the other day – an amazing account of a BBC cameraman fixing a camera to a tree in Venezuela to film a harpy eagle. Spine tingling!

LOL

Gorgeous, though, and wonderful photos. Thanks for posting!

Clearly it’s the Belconnen Owl. Philistines.

Magnificent !

He is a beautiful bird.. I’d love to be an eagle handler.

Onto the desktop he goes..

Was this in Canberra itself? It’s an incredibly beautiful bird.

Mt Painter at 8.30 am this morning, on one of the dead trees in the shoulder of the ridge.

Thanks for the information and kind comments everyone. I would have loved to have got a better shot, but that was at the full extension of my telephoto lens.

There was a little eagle there the other day, in the same tree, got a cracking shot of him!

It is indeed a Black-Shouldered Kite and they are fantastic photos. Well done.

no idea…..but he/she is a beauty!

A pair of these birds had a half arsed go at swooping me while I was horse riding a while ago.

Good thing they weren’t trying too hard.

I’m pretty sure they had a nest nearby.

Look at those eyes! So angry! Never thought I’d see a bird giving the stink-eye.

Pretty feathers though!

Was this in Canberra itself? It’s an incredibly beautiful bird.

A Black Shouldered Kite i believe.

Sure looks like it.

What a magnifient bird. Excellent picture, by the way. Note how far apart the eyes are – I presume this gives it better depth of field vision, perfect for spotting prey.

A Black Shouldered Kite i believe.
