What’s your prediction on the order the minor party’s will finish in the Senate?

By pepmeup 20 August 2013 31

Given here in the ACT, we won’t have any change to the status quo when it comes to this federal election. Both lower house seats will go labor and senate will be labor first the liberal second.

For a bit more fun can you guess what the order of the minor party’s will be in the senate?

My guess

1)Labor (elected)
2)Liberal (elected)
3)Greens
4)Katter
5)Bullet train
6)Sex party
7)Palmer
8)Animal justice party (donkey vote)
9)Euthanasia party
10)Australian independents
11)Rise up
12)Stable population
13)Drug law reform
14)Ezekiel-Hart independent

Anyone else willing to have a guess, this is a relatively uneducated guess but we will see.

Well it looks like the Sex party was the best of the others, 3.55% not a bad effort, Katter’s vote was a lot lower than I thought it would be. It is also very interesting how little interest is being shown by just how close the second senate seat has become. Zed will win, but maybe with the help from Rise Up, Stable Pop and Animal Justice. Zed rolled Gary to make the Seat safe for the liberals, well that was his excuse at the time. If Zed does have to rely on Animal Justice Votes, it will prove to be a very big call for them to give Liberals their preferences above the greens. It will also make the seat seem more winnable for the Greens next time. But I guess people say that after each election.

Oh Jesus, get over yourself already, will you please?

What’s up with you? This sort of thing is a daily occurrence on RA and rightly so…

Personally I can’t wait for the day the Grammar National Socialist Party features on Canberra’s ballot papers.

**HEY MODS** get someone either in Jerra (or send someone) to get a photo off the front of jerra primary. Most amaziing display of political signage ever. They have covered literally every square inch of about about 150 metres of tall fencing!

How long will it take to know the new ACT senators?

Two weeks?

    johnboy 2:56 pm 06 Sep 13

Depends how close it is Aussielyn.

If Zed’s got a quota of 1s then it’s game over on election night.

If he’s under quota then we might be some time figuring it out.

and on the question of the Senate and the House of Reps
Tasmania has a population just over 500,000 while the ACT has around 400,000
Tasmania has 15 Federal representatives while ACT gets just 4
Democracy? or unrepresentative swill?

Yes well the idea was for the 6 states to have an equal say in the senate. Of course the ACT and NT didn’t get an equal say because they didn’t really exist in 1901. that said when they offered the NT statehood in a referendum it was turned down, basically because its representation in the senate was not going to be equal to the other 6 states.

Tassie also has 17 representatives (5 house of reps, 12 senators).

It would be nice to get better representation at the federal level.

I haven’t looked for a while but does anyone know if the ACT has any chance of getting back its third Reps seat in the next AEC distribution? Given the likely negative population growth if Abbott gets in, I suppose our chances are bugger all.
