What’s your prediction on the order the minor party’s will finish in the Senate?

By pepmeup - 20 August 2013 31

Given here in the ACT, we won’t have any change to the status quo when it comes to this federal election. Both lower house seats will go labor and senate will be labor first the liberal second.

For a bit more fun can you guess what the order of the minor party’s will be in the senate?

My guess

1)Labor (elected)
2)Liberal (elected)
3)Greens
4)Katter
5)Bullet train
6)Sex party
7)Palmer
8)Animal justice party (donkey vote)
9)Euthanasia party
10)Australian independents
11)Rise up
12)Stable population
13)Drug law reform
14)Ezekiel-Hart independent

Anyone else willing to have a guess, this is a relatively uneducated guess but we will see.

What’s Your opinion?

does anyone think any of these smaller parties is god enough to get the 4% mark?

My guess

1)Labor (elected)
2)Liberal (elected)
3)Greens
4)Sex party (the fireworks will win big bogan votes)
5)Bullet train (well known already)
6)Katter
7)Palmer
8)Animal justice party (donkey vote)
9)Stable population
10)Australian independents
11)Rise up
12)Euthanasia Party
13)Drug law reform
14)Ezekiel-Hart independent

do any of these parties do any actual campaigning? other than the top three I have not seen anything other than what is posted on here and the questionnaire.

if a smaller party did have a fair go they might be able to reach the 4% mark and get $2.48 a vote in electoral funding. Could be a good investment for some small up and coming parties, However I think a lot of these parties are like lawn mowing franchises, one man and a hat.

Whatever we do, Labor will win due to preferences. Looking at all the other parties, Labor is in front of Liberal 8 to 5. Has to be a pretty big landslide going the wrong way to get Liberal in. Tell me the system isn’t rigged.

He does, doesn’t he. It makes you wonder why he’s associating himself with a loony like Katter.

as more candidates finish the riot act questionnaire, I may want to change my order a bit, but I still think Katter party will to well, That Steven Bailey bloke seems pretty normal to me, his answers are pretty much in line with my views. But I guess I have to wonder how many other Canberrans think the same?

I hope we get a lot more over the next few days, they are a great insight into partys I know nothing about.

As i said on the other thread, its interesting to note many labor voters voted greens first purely to get their first preferences up. I’d be interested to know what the donkey vote percentage in the senate is. i’d think more likely people will put a 1 above the line, not necessarily in the first box.

They sort of do, although they are grouped as independents as I believe the party is now deregistered.

Minor? I barely know her.

watto23 10:13 am 20 Aug 13

oh back to the guessing comp. I don’t think Katter will be as high in the ACT. but its hard to say which minor party with a one issue platform would get higher. The Sex party probably would get more votes if they changed their name but continued with there policy ideas.
so i’m guessing this….

1)Labor (elected)
2)Liberal (elected)
3)Greens
4)Bullet train
5)Animal justice party (donkey vote)
6)Sex party
7)Katter
8)Palmer
9)Euthanasia party
10)Rise up (a few paranoid nutters about could see this party get more votes than they deserve)
11)Australian independents
12)Drug law reform
13)Stable population
14)Ezekiel-Hart independent

and on the question of the Senate and the House of Reps

Democracy? or unrepresentative swill?

Yes well the idea was for the 6 states to have an equal say in the senate. Of course the ACT and NT didn’t get an equal say because they didn’t really exist in 1901. that said when they offered the NT statehood in a referendum it was turned down, basically because its representation in the senate was not going to be equal to the other 6 states.

Tassie also has 17 representatives (5 house of reps, 12 senators).

It would be nice to get better representation at the federal level.

No, just a lack of understanding about the history of federation in Australia.
