There wouldn’t be time to get a new facility built and ready prior to the move needing to commence anyway. Besides, Canberrans should be cheering, as the old data centre is being knocked down to build more residential housing.

Not enough power, not enough land and the government has said that they will be looking for DC providers outside of Canberra.
The old EDS/ATO data centre is being knocked down to make way for apartments.

DC providers should consider a built for purpose multi storey DC in one of the town centres, I would like to say one of the industrial areas but the power is either flaky or non existent.

Perhaps its just that people running data centers noticed the NIMBY response over the Canberra Technology City facility and picked the path of least resistance?

Just another example of why having a minority government involving the Greens needs a closer look. Business will simply move operations rather than put in more work comply to over onerous conditions for development. Why would you put the extra leg work in the initial satges of any project when you can slip into another jursidiction and get the prelminaries done in half the time with half the red tape?

Yes, there is a need for sustainability to be seen as improtant in any future development from now on, but the recent precendents set in regards to developments being declined on NIMBY, environmental grounds is a massive risk for such a small economy as the one that the ACT has.
