The Liberals’ Jeremy Hanson is asking where 13% of the ACT’s medical practitioner workforce went between 2009 and 2010.
“Canberra already has the lowest number of GPs per capita, and this data shows medical practitioners are leaving the ACT health sector in droves,” Mr Hanson said today.
“The ACT also has the lowest bulk billing rates, and the highest elective surgery and emergency department waiting times. Any workforce loss will be felt strongly across the sector.
“The ACT desperately needs more medical practitioners, especially at a time when plans are slated for a new sub-acute hospital.
“I call on Katy Gallagher to explain the reasons behind this huge loss to the health sector, and the steps her government is taking to retain these important workers,” Mr Hanson concluded.
