Where to find a hotdog?

By saraj - 15 September 2012 49

Its a silly question I know but Im stumped.  I have a little man who wants to go out for a hotdog for his birthday.  I cant think of where to take him.  Other than a bowling alley or an ice cream/frozen yogurt shop (I know, weird huh!) I cant think of anywhere that serves them.

Can anyone recommend a location for us?  A restaurant would be preferable to a side of the road location since he wants something a little more special than Mum’s at home version.

Cheers

Phil does pretty good hotdogs. You’ll find him outside the Private Bin most weekends. A good bloke too, he often lets you sponge a few smokes off him if you ask nicely.

Sorry, probably not the best recommendation, but thanks for the memories.

You could arrange a birthday cake with smokes instead of candles. He’ll never forget…

I’d +1 Bluey’s except for the fact that it’s at the tradies – the area is kid friendly enough, and if its during the day shouldn’t be a problem.

Goodberrys in Belconnen would be ideal for him and you. You can sit down with a coffee, he can enjoy his hotdog. Easy parking, or access by bus – its one block from the Belconnen Westfield bus stop.

Not fair. I just shot a mouthful of Boag’s Premium over my keyboard, which is a serious abuse of alcohol. 🙂

I guess I’ll just have to head out to Costco and grab another slab, which segues nicely into the hotdog theme.

I believe that you can get into the cafe area of Costco without a membership, and they do hotdogs. Not great hotdogs, but they’re OK and they also have bottomless softdrinks in big mugs.

It’s the only solution I can think of in Canberra. Wherever you end up I hope you have a good time, and good onyer for looking after your little bloke. 🙂

They do a decent hotdog at the cafe at tidbinbilla tracking station.
And the space exhibits are awesome for all ages. Then the nature reserve is across the road if a rear ride with the windows down (or a walk) spotting wildlife appeals.
Happy birthday to your offspring

You could always mince a pig and shove it up its own arse, educational and delicious!

Seriously, would your child still want it if he knew how it was made? Which is worse, shattering his delusion, or feeding him boiled lips and bumholes for his birthday.

Yeah, making delicious food often requires some gross butchery to occur, so what?

I’ve always found bumholes to be quite tender and juicy in a sausage that is!

In Canberra, probably Franks and Beanz at the Majura Park complex (just in front of Woolworths) is your best bet. Its a food court, but as hot dogs go, they are not too bad and there is a range of options.

You could buy good quality sausages, sauerkraut, rolls, condiments etc and make your own at home, but if he wants to go out somewhere, that is probably your best option locally.

If you fancy a drive to Sydney, there is a place called Snag Stand on the 5th floor of the Centrepoint tower which also has a good selection.

Why not take a day trip to Sydney and go to Harry’s Cafe d’ Wheels in Woolloomooloo? Very nice hotdogs and a really cool location

Enjoy a good hot doggie myself … decent options around here are indeed scarce.

Costco is a reliable default for me … not so useful if you’re not a member. Frank & Beanz out at Majura Park is also a better option than the donut shops (http://www.frankandbeanz.com.au/menu.html).
Can’t point you towards are more standard cafe-type-place coz I don’t use them. If you want to go OTT, Zierholz Fyshwick have a “barrosa valley kransky sausage on rustic bread w/ dried shallots, sauerkraut & mustard” for 15 beer tickets … maybe not ideal for the little man.
