Where to ride bikes in Canberra

Actually – I wasn’t taking a swipe, I was simply demonstrating that many people in the ACT ride, with out all of the fancy stuff – If it makes a difference to you then cool.

Regarding car competencies – When I learnt to ride my motorbike, the most important thing that we were taught was to work on the basis that the person in the car beside you decided this morning to drive over somebody and is simply looking for a target, and to ride assuming that something bad is about to happen. That is the attitude that I adopt, and it workd really wekk – hence the keeping distance between car and me great.

I love riding my bike – I do it most weekdays. Sometimes I take my MTB to Stromlo.

I do wear a helmet.
I do have a *really* bright headlight.
I do ride on bikepaths, and in on-road bike lanes. Why should I go out of my way because some motorists aren’t competent? I manage not to hit any cyclists when I’m driving.

I DO wear Lycra, because I find it comfortable.
I am not a member of a bike club, but maybe one day I will join one.
I do have clipless pedals that need specialised shoes, because I commute about 45km a day, and the pedals make pedalling easier.

I can’t help but think that Master_Bates was taking a swipe at someone with the lycra and pedals remarks, but I don’t understand why.

Oh – by the way – I love riding my bike – I do it most weekends –

Anyway, seems like a poor article trying to promote the MTB WC but making it a hap-hazard general article. Don’t get my wrong, always great to get more people out and about *just don’t be a doofus and skid*

Agreed Grrrr. An inability to deal with whatever/whoever else is on the roads is simply incompetence.

Only lousy drivers find cyclists a hassle – everyone else shares the roads just fine.

I still don’t get the angst…when I drive a car, I never have problems with cyclists. When I ride my bike, I seldom have problems with cars. I’m starting to think that all these issues are in peoples heads.
