Where was Canberra? (for the Chris Botti Concert)

I attended a phenomenal concert by Chris Botti and Co. a week ago at the Canberra Theater.

As a jazz enthusiast, I have had the pleasure and good luck of watching many a legend.

This concert was mind blowing and mind boggling.

Superb jazz performed to a lackluster few.

Half the seats were empty.

Has this always been the case?

I’m new to Canberra and am trying to figure it out!

To answer the question in your title: probs at something interesting. Just sayin.

So apparently the answer is “it was half-empty because it wasn’t advertised on RiotACT”. Promoters take note!

I’ve had a couple of similar experiences at fantastic shows that were criminally under-attended, but Canberra is capable of mustering a sellout crowd on occasion. I’ve never really figured out why this is the case – you’d think that people would be keen to get to a good concert, since relatively few well-known artists come here, but that doesn’t always seem to be the case.

not a big jazz fan personally but my son plays trumpet and my wife thought it’d be a good show – he was FANTASTIC – effortless playing, incredible range and ability – and gave those there a great show. I too was surprised at the numbers but maybe it was a limited promotion and i confess I’d never heard of him before.

Still, one the best shows I’ve been too.

This is a good thing. it keeps the riff-raff out if they don’t know it’s on.

The problem with events in Canberra is that the dregs always show up in droves when events are advertised

Personally, the reason isª that I did not see a single advert for said concert. Although as Riotact is the only local news source I watch, listen or read, it is hardly surprising.

ª – Not that I would have gone anyway, but I have noticed that I occasionally miss out on gigs I otherwise would have liked because I don’t know they are on until they are sold out.
