“Well hurrah” you say, “who’s The Ellis Collective?”. They are a brand new kick arse combination of members of Dahahoo, One Night Jam, The Cashews, Dubba Rukki and Fire On the Hill. Oh – and that hungover, go no where, hang around Matty Ellis.

This weekend, for their first official time on stage the The Ellis Collective will be supporting legendary Aussie guitar maestro Michael Fix and the sweet, sweet album launch of Julia & The Deep Sea Sirens.

I went and saw this at the Merry Muse – was sweet – Matty is an awesome singer and the harmonies provided via the cello, violin and female vocals pulls at heart strings. Music to make any hardend aussie yobbo weep.

As for Michael fix – I have been playing guitar for 15 years and he gave me every reason to give up.

I am glad he made a mistake mid set because I was beginning to think he was a god…. his version of Pipeline was butterflies in my stomach… Awesome…anyone who can play walking bass, rhythm and harmonies all on the same guitar and at the same time deserves a bloody good pat on the back – reminded me of what Jeff Lang would be like if he did not play blues.
