Looks like these petulant entitled spoilt little brats who think they can filth up public property have been at it again. The youth centre near lanyon shops and a children’s playground at Conder wetlands has been defaced with more “memorial” graffiti. A slippery dip at the park was defaced for cryin out loud and a dog turd was conveniently mashed at the bottom of the slippery dip that my 5 year old son manage to evade by millimetres.

What sort of sick mongrel gets off on that? What I would give to rub the mongrels nose it.

The youth centre skate park is a disgrace, not only the graffiti but the filth and rubbish. I’ve seen newly planted trees there uprooted. This is provided for them and they shit on it.

These heroes (and in most cases thier parents) need to learn some BASIC respect for themselves and others. These “memorials” just serve to dishonour thier “mate” and reflect how social standards are in the gutter.

We need an anti vandalism squad here in the ACT to covertly nail these scum and get them scrubbing thier filth off public property and reap the benefits of a hard days yakka. I’d happily pay 5 bucks a week extra tax.

Losing a friend is difficult. I had to experience that when I was younger. But it’s no justification for vandalism and breaking the law. If his friends want a memorial for him, perhaps they should tag the walls of their own homes or vandalise their own property.

I lost 3 friends in separate incidents before my 19th birthday, and I was very sad on each occasion. But I didn’t vandalise public property, and then (and this is the worst bit) justify it.

We all know such an incident effects teens. But ignoring rules and letting them use such an event as an excuse is doing neither the teens nor the rest of us any favours.

Whilst I understand and sympathise with the reasons this issue came about, I think that the actions of a few snotty kids have contributed negatively on the whole deal. Can’t say I’m sorry to see this go – but let’s not laud this a victory for the moral majority. It is what it is – life moves on. Let’s preserve some dignity by not taking cheap shots at those less fortunate.

So we can assume that whoever is responsible for cleaning up the interchange had some type of arrangement, where they would leave it in place, while a more appropriate memorial was arranged for Pine Island.

Who would have thought it – adults and kids, talking to each other and coming to an agreement that works out for everyone. And here I was thinking that Michael’s friends were only capable of causing trouble and hurling abuse, while completely erasing him from their memories…

I actually have to stop looking at this now because my faith in humanity is suffering. I’m sure if I met half of the kids we’re talking about I’d hate their company. So because these kids have moved on from the focal point of their grief and they’re presumably getting on with their lives, that means that they’ve forgotten their friend and no longer care about his death? The sense of arrogance and superiority in some of these posts is sickening.

I consider myself very fortunate that when I was that age, I didn’t ever have to go through losing a friend. I said it at the time, and I’ll say it again now – I hope that Michael’s friends can get together, and plan a suitable memorial to him.

Stupidest thing ever. I have lost friends when I was young and whilst I went on to play Playstation again, I have never and will never forget or stop feeling sad about the loss. This is a huge, irreplacable loss for his family and for many of his friends it will be their first run in with death, loss and grieving. What the hell is your excuse for acting so shameful??

Given the rather strident and truculent response by the kiddies – both on this forum and at the Interchange – when the first attempt was made to rebeautify the area following the vandalism (I refuse to call it a memorial), I wonder whether they will be manning the barricades today and forcing the cleaners to back off.

Ah, so all those useless bogan pieces of trash that were so adamant that they would preserve the memorial forever in his name proven themselves to be forgetful of their dearly departed friend.
